Middle Tennessee Electric, headquartered in Murfreesboro, is one of the largest electric cooperatives in the country delivering safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to more than 350,000 accounts, approximately 750,000 Tennesseans across 11 middle Tennessee counties. With a dedicated workforce of around 540 employees and a highly engaged board of directors, MTE fosters a strong, member-focused culture grounded in service, accountability, and community commitment. MTE receives its wholesale power from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), a federally owned power provider serving seven southeastern states. In addition, MTE’s subsidiary, United Communications, is a nationally recognized broadband leader whose fiber network extends more than 6,100 miles, providing high-speed internet and phone services to communities in 11 middle Tennessee counties.
The cooperative continues to invest in system reliability, grid modernization, and operational improvements through its long-term Smart Grid initiative. These strategic infrastructure upgrades are designed to enhance power quality, reduce outage duration, and position MTE to meet members’ evolving energy needs while maintaining strong financial stewardship.
MTE’s culture reflects the cooperative difference – employees are deeply committed to the communities they serve. Whether responding to severe weather, supporting local schools, or participating in economic development initiatives, MTE team members are deeply influenced by Patrick Lencioni’s Ideal Team Player philosophy: They are “Humble, Hungry, and People-Smart.” This commitment aligns with the cooperative’s mission to provide affordable, reliable, safe electricity and outstanding member service. Beyond delivering power, MTE actively supports area nonprofits, civic organizations, and community events, reinforcing its broader goal of improving the quality of life across Middle Tennessee.
Within this environment, the cooperative is seeking someone who shares their passion for communication, measurable vision, and cultural transformation to serve as the next VP of Finance – a leader who can advance MTE’s mission while strengthening the culture that defines it.
